Karnataka High Court dismisses petition challenging appointment of non-Hindus as administrators in Hindu Temples

Will heavens fall if people of other faith enter the temple? – Karnataka High Court

Bengaluru – The Karnataka High Court dismissed two petitions seeking stringent implementation of Section 7 of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, and not permitting non-Hindus to bear office in Hindu religious organisations. The High Court also asked whether the heavens would fall if people of other faith enter the temple ?

  1. The Court observed that ‘there is a Constitution in the nation; and that it will never entertain such petitions which will set the nation back by 100 years . The Hindu religion was never so  and it doesn’t have people with narrow minds. Across the country there are instances where non-Hindu Government officers have actively assisted the administration of Hindu festivals.
  2. One of the petitions was filed by advocate N P Amruthesh of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad, questioning the printing of the name of A B Ibrahim, working as deputy commissioner with the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department, Mangaluru, on the invitation card of the annual festival of Mahalingeshwara Temple.
  3. The second petition was filed by Bharata Punarutthana Trust objecting the appointment of Mohamad Deshav Alikhan as Superintendent in the office of the Commissioner.
