Madhya Pradesh also plans strict law against ‘Love Jihad’

It would be better if the Central Government itself forms a strict law against ‘Love Jihad’ than each state forming a separate law !

Bhopal (MP) – ‘We are planning to introduce a bill against ‘Love Jihad’ in the next session of State Assembly. Such an offence would be a non-bailable offence, and the bill proposes 5 years of rigorous imprisonment for the culprits, informed Narottam Mishra, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister. The States of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Karnatak have also announced to form the laws against Love Jihad previously.

Narottam Mishra added that on the backdrop of ‘Love Jihad’, the Bill called ‘Dharma Swatantrya’ law would be proposed in the next session of the State Assembly. Under the proposed Bill, those assisting ‘forced conversions for marriage’ will be made co-accused. The Bill also has a provision for punishment to the one who forces a person to convert for marriage. If someone wishes to marry after conversion, then he/she should apply to the District Collector’s office. The Bill would have a provision to declare marriages which are carried out forcefully or through threats and hiding identity as null and void.
