Obnoxious statement from MP Thol Thirumavalavan of Tamil Nadu

Thol Thirumavalavan, MP and Chief of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) party, which is considered to be a Dalit party in Chennai, referred to Hindu Scripture ‘Manusmruti’ in an Online seminar organised by pro-Periyar people and made an obnoxious statement – ‘In Hindu Dharma, especially in Brahman class, women are considered prostitutes. The place of women is kept below that of men in Hindu Dharma’. This discussion was aired on YouTube channel called Periyar TV. Since the video went viral on social media, Thirumavalavan is being widely criticised.
