Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Mr. C Subramaniam had affixed pictures of Deities on his compound wall ostensibly to prevent people from urinating on the wall. Advocate NP Amrutesh of the High Court and executive member of the Advocates’ Association, issued a legal notice to Mr. Subramaniam that he was committing an offence under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code. After this Mr. Subramaniam removed these pictures within 24-hours.
The notice sent to Subramaniam said – ‘A few days ago, while I was on my way from the High Court to my office at Malleshwaram, I saw pictures of Deities such as Shri Mahaganapati, Mahalakshmi Devi, Sai Baba on the wall of your compound. Apparently, you intended to stop people from urinating on the wall.
However, it appears that you have insulted the Deities by using such pictures. This amounts to making a mockery of Hindu Deities and hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus. Thus, you have denigrated the seats of worship of Hindus only for your own benefit’.
