On 12th October, power supply in four Districts of Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Raigad was completely cut off due to a breakdown on the high voltage power line of Maharashtra Energy Transmission Company (Mahatransco) running between the Kalwa and Padgha substations. As a result, the daily life of people, including railways and road transport was disrupted. Earlier, officials of Mahatransco, along with the Energy Minister, had said that the power had gone out due to a technical fault.
Maintenance of 400 kV Kalwa-Padgha power line No. 1 of Mahatransco was in progress. At that time, all the power load was on circuit No. 2. However, due to sudden technical fault on Circuit-2, power supply to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Raigad Districts was disrupted.
