Stop the pension benefits of Justice Markandey Katju for telling a British Court that conman Nirav Modi will not get justice in India
H.H. (Adv.) Suresh Kulkarni writes to the Chief Justice of India
Aurangabad (Maharashtra) – Justice Markandey Katju, former Supreme Court Judge and Chairman of the Press Council of India recently deposed as a witness in favour of economic offender Nirav Modi. He said that Nirav Modi will not get justice in India. H.H. (Adv.) Suresh Kulkarni (Advocate before the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, Bench at Aurangabad, Founder Member of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad and Secretary of High Court Bar Association) wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of Supreme Court demanding stringent action against Markandey Katju, by way of withholding his pension and retiral benefits. He also wrote a similar letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting them to look into the matter.
H.H. (Adv.) Suresh Kulkarni writes :
Nirav Modi is a fugitive conman, wanted by the Interpol and the Government of India for criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating and dishonesty including the delivery of property, corruption, money laundering, fraud, embezzlement and breach of contract since August 2018. Markandey Katju’s statement will deeply impact the extradition process.
Katju’s statement comes during a time when India is facing financial exigencies because of the Covid-19 pandemic which has taken a heavy toll on our economy. Nobody can deny the fact that the Government is making efforts to bring the economy onto the revival path. Here I would like to state that the general public of the country too respects our judiciary as being impartial and just and reposes huge faith in the judicial system.
Similarly, Katju had said about the Ayodhya verdict on the construction of Ram Temple as being shameful after the ADM Jabalpur judgment in 1976. In the past, Katju had to retract his words and seek apology from the Hon’ble Supreme Court for his ignorant statement in the Mumbai Blast case.
In 2016, a notice was issued against Katju for his blog, in which he allegedly used intemperate language against the judges of the Supreme Court. He shouted at Justice Ranjan Gogoi, the then Presiding member of a 3-judge Bench in Court 6 of the Supreme Court about the sensational Sowmya murder and rape case in Kerala. Justice Gogoi had to ask the security to escort Katju out of a packed courtroom.
However, Katju’s present statement is completely intolerable since it shakes the entire judicial system of our country very badly. The investigation system of our country is under attack and it rocks the morale of earnest and truthful Government sleuths. The statements of Katju seem to be deliberate and reek of anti-national sentiments.
Therefore, I request your Honour to take stringent action against Markandey Katju, say, withholding of his pension and retiral benefits so that it becomes a paradigm model for the whole country and people like Katju dare not play with the security of the country.
