Azaan on loudspeakers should be turned off ! – Lyricist Javed Akhtar
Javed Akhtar said that azaan on loudspeakers will not be stopped. The Government should make legal efforts to stop it !
New Delhi – Azaan on loudspeakers was Haram (forbidden) for the last 50 years; but now it has become Halal (proper) and it has become Halal in such a way that it has no restrictions. It is okay to give azaan; but if given on loudspeaker, it is causes inconvenience to others. I hope that, at least this time, they will give azaan (without paying from the loudspeaker) themselves, tweeted famous lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar.
In India for almost 50 yrs Azaan on the loud speak was HARAAM Then it became HaLAAL n so halaal that there is no end to it but there should be an end to it Azaan is fine but loud speaker does cause of discomfort for others I hope that atleast this time they will do it themselves

Javed Akhtar’s reply to his critics
- Javed Akhtar’s tweet was opposed by many. A person opposed and tweeted that a nearby temple plays bhajans on loudspeakers ever day, what do you think about this ? Replying to this, Javed Akhtar tweeted that whether it is a temple or a mosque, it is only appropriate to use loudspeakers during festivals; however, it should not be used on temples or mosques every day. Azaan has been given even though there has been no loudspeaker for more than a thousand years. Azaan is a part of your faith, it is not a gadget.’
- 2. Another person tweeted in protest, “I don’t agree with you. Don’t express your opinion about Islam and the faith in it. You know, we don’t play loud songs and we don’t do anything bad. Azaan is a good thing to call for prayers”. Replying to this, Javed Akhtar tweeted, “Are you saying that for the last 50 years, the scholars of Islam have been banning loudspeakers, they were wrong and they did not know what they were talking about ?” If you have the courage to hear their names, I can name those Islamic scholars.
