‘Dress code’ for devotees at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi
Praiseworthy decision of the administration of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple !
Varanasi (UP) – Devotees coming to the famous Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi will have to follow a ‘Dress code’ (Rules for dressing in a place) after Makar Sankranti.
Such a ‘Dress code’ is in line with the one made applicable in the Shri Mahankal Temple in Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh). Accordingly, men will have to wear dhoti-kurta and women will have to wear saree when visiting the Temple. A decision regarding this was taken on 5th January at a meeting between the Temple administration and the Kashi Vidvat Parishad. Uttar Pradesh Tourism Minister Neelkanth Tiwari was also present on the occasion.
According to the decision, devotees wearing jeans, pants, T-shirts and suits can also now take darshan; however, they will not be allowed to touch the Shivalinga. It is only after they wear traditional garments that devotees will be allowed to touch the Shivlinga.
