US delists Syrian rebel leader Julani from terrorist list
Damascus – Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) rebel group in Syria, is no longer a terrorist for the United States. The United States has removed Julani from its list of terrorists. The US Government has canceled the $10 million (Rs 85 crore) bounty placed on Julani. Julani and his organization are behind overthrowing Bashar al-Assad’s Government in Syria. The US is hostile to Assad. (Yet another example of how the US changes its policies when its interests are achieved. This shows the true nature of it, which otherwise speaks of eliminating terrorism – Editor).
The US made this decision after a meeting with the leaders of the HTS in Syria. US Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf said that this decision was taken after the removal of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power.
The US had declared ‘HTS’ as a terrorist organisation in 2018. It is now also considering removing the ‘HTS’ rebel group from the list of terrorist organisations.
