Don’t know how long we’ll be able to continue electricity supply to Bangladesh : Tripura CM
Bangladesh owes Rs 200 crore in electricity dues to Tripura
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – “We are supplying electricity to Bangladesh, but it has not paid us about Rs 200 crore for supplying electricity. The outstanding amount is increasing every day. We hope that they will clear their dues so that the power supply is not disrupted,” Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha warned Bangladesh. “But I don’t know how long we will be able to continue the supply of electricity to Bangladesh if they don’t clear the dues,” he added. Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited supplies 60 to 70 MW of electricity to Bangladesh through Electricity Trading Corporation Limited. An agreement has been signed with Bangladesh Power Development Board for this purpose. Tripura has been supplying power to Bangladesh since March 2016.

Chief Minister Saha further said that several machines were brought from Bangladesh or Chittagong port for setting up power plants in Tripura. The Tripura Government started power supply to Bangladesh after the agreement.
Tripura is surrounded by Bangladesh to the north, south and west and has an international border 856 km long, which is 84% of its total border length.
Editorial PerspectiveIn India, if a person does not pay electricity bills for 3 months, the electricity is immediately disconnected. Why is India afraid to take such decisions in the context of Bangladesh, which is currently persecuting Hindus ? |
