Temple looted

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – In a shocking incident in the Kasimpur area of Natore District, Tarun Das, a 55-year-old Priest at a Hindu temple, was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants. Reports indicate that Das was killed following a robbery at the temple. His hands and feet were tied with a plastic rope, and he sustained head injuries that caused severe bleeding, ultimately leading to his death. The Hindu organisation ‘Sanatan Jagaran Jyot’ has staged protests against this heinous crime.

1. ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharaman Das strongly condemned the incident in a social media post, questioning why the acts of looting and violence repeatedly target the Hindu community. While Bangladeshi Police have described the incident as a robbery, Das highlighted the troubling pattern of violence disproportionately affecting Hindus.

2. Another ISKCON follower highlighted the deteriorating situation, stating that mere discussions would no longer suffice. According to the Indian Government, there have been 2,200 incidents of violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh as of 8thDecember, 2024. However, he pointed out that the actual numbers could be higher due to many incidents going unreported.

3. The ‘Voice of Bangladeshi Hindus’ account on social media platform X shared a photo showing vandalised Hindu idols. The post claimed that members of Jamaat-e-Islami attacked a Hindu temple in the Jharnabari village of Birganj Sub-District, causing severe damage to the idols.

Editorial Perspective

India urged Bangladesh to protect Hindus and their religious sites; however, such incidents highlight the lack of efforts from the Bangladeshi Government. Hindus now expect India to take decisive action to ensure their safety.
