We hope that Bangladesh will take adequate steps to protect the minorities : Dr S Jaishankar
EAM’s statement in the Lok Sabha
New Delhi – ‘There have been several incidents of violence against minorities in Bangladesh. We are keeping an eye on these incidents. Recently, our Foreign Secretary visited Dhaka. Discussions were also held on this issue during the meeting there. We hope that Bangladesh will take sufficient steps to protect the minorities’, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said in response to a question raised by Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi in the Lok Sabha. (It is shameful that such a question is raised by an MP Asaduddin Owaisi and none of the Hindu MPs ! – Editor)
In response to a question regarding Myanmar, EAM Dr Jaishankar said, ‘The Government of India is reviewing the agreements made with Myanmar. Under these agreements, people are allowed to cross borders; however, India has currently imposed a ban on it’.
India distances itself from Hasina’s statement
After a visit to Bangladesh by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, he informed the Parliamentary Standing Committee that India does not support the statements made by Sheikh Hasina criticising the interim Government of Bangladesh. These statements have strained the relations between the two countries. India’s relations with Bangladesh are not limited to any one political party. They are based on the citizens of both countries. Sheikh Hasina was using personal tools to express her views. India has not provided her with any equipment for such purposes. The Government of India does not provide her with any facilities that would enable her to make political moves.
President Biden is monitoring the situation in Bangladesh : United States
John Kirby, an Advisor for the US Government, said in a press conference that President Biden is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh. He also mentioned that the interim Government has been asked to ensure the safety of minorities. The security situation in Bangladesh deteriorated after Sheikh Hasina left the country. To address this, the US is helping strengthen Bangladesh’s security forces.
Editorial PerspectiveSince August, the situation in Bangladesh has shown no sign of Hindus being protected. Therefore, it would be absurd to have any hope of their protection, and if Hindus feel this way, it should not be considered wrong ! Hindus around the world believe that India must take concrete action to protect them ! |
