Hearing on petitions against ‘Places of Worship Act, 1991’ on 12th December
New Delhi – Six petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the ‘Place of Worship Act, 1991’ will be heard on 12th December. Dr. Subrahmanyam Swamy, Narrator Devkinandan Thakur, Advocate Shri. Ashwini Upadhyay, Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain and others have filed these petitions. The Act states that the places of worship in the country which existed on 15th August, 1947, will be kept as they are. Only the Babri dispute in Ayodhya was excluded from this.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has filed a petition against these petitions. The Jamiat claims that considering the petitions against the law will lead to a flood of lawsuits against mosques across the country. The Muslim Personal Law Board and the Anjuman System Masjid Management Committee, which maintains the Gyanwapi Masjid, have also sought dismissal of the petition.
