‘Walmart’ website withdraws selling slippers and swimwear with the image of Shri Ganesh
Outcome of Hindus’ protest in USA
Washington (USA) – On Friday (6th December), Walmart courted controversy after it came to light that it had been selling footwear and underwear embossed with the image of Shri Ganesh. Walmart had been selling tops, pants, shorts, bikinis, flip-flops and socks featuring the image of Shri Ganesh under its ‘Celestial Ganesh Blessings Collections.’ US-based Hindu advocacy organisation ‘Hindu American Foundation’ HAF had written directly to the Walmart management against misusing of Hindu imagery on slippers and bathing suits. After they wrote a letter to Walmart and made it known, Walmart removed these products from the website. After this, the Hindu American Foundation thanked Walmart. These products were being sold; however, they were not available for purchase in India.
After a complaint from the Hindu American Foundation, Walmart expressed regret for selling such products on its website. Walmart also acknowledged that this did indeed hurt religious sentiments and beliefs.
Editorial PerspectiveCongratulations to Hindus in USA. While Hinduism and religious scriptures are being mocked through various media in India, the Hindus who do nothing to stop it should learn from this ! |
