Petition in Bangladesh HC to ban Indian television channels
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – A petition seeking a ban on Indian television channels has been filed in the High Court of Bangladesh. The petition has expressed concern over the growing influence of Indian media on Bangladeshi culture and society. Advocate Ikhlas Uddin Bhuiyan has filed this petition. It is hereby demanded that directions be issued for ban under ‘Cable Television Network Operation Act 2006’. The secretaries of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and others have been named as respondents in the petition.
It has been demanded to ban Star Jalsa, Star Plus, Zee Bangla, Republic Bangla and all other Indian channels. It has been alleged that provocative news is being broadcast through Indian channels. It is also said that due to the unregulated broadcasting of content that opposes Bangladeshi culture, it is affecting the youth. It has been alleged that these channels are being run without following any rules.
