Amritsar (Punjab) – Sikh fundamentalist Barjinder Parwana has attempted to associate Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri’s remarks about the Harihar Temple in Sambhal with the Golden Temple in Amritsar, also known as Harmandir Sahib. Parwana has gone as far as issuing a death threat against Pandit Shastri. This threat was made during a meeting in Kadarabad village, Kapurthala district, Punjab.

In response, Viresh Shandilya, chief of the ‘Anti-Terrorist Front India’ and Vishwa Hindu Takht, has demanded Parwana’s arrest within 48 hours. Shandilya warned that if the police fail to act, they will escalate the matter to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

What did Parwana say?

Barjinder Parwana, in a highly provocative statement, targeted Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham over alleged remarks involving the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple). Parwana stated, “The sadhu of Bageshwar Dham said that ‘we will worship in the Harmandir.’ We will perform abhishekam and build the temple. I say, come if you dare. But remember this—we killed Indira Gandhi. She was not allowed to set foot inside. An army of lakhs came here, and we destroyed them with bullets. He [Pandit Shastri] should recall the bomb blast in Chandigarh (referencing the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh). From today, the countdown has started for the Baba of Bageshwar. Let him note that we will attack and kill him at our will. Come if you can.” He further challenged Pandit Shastri, warning, “Beyond Harmandir Sahib, Baba should try to enter Amritsar or Punjab and invoke Bageshwar.” This incendiary rhetoric has drawn sharp criticism, with calls for legal action against Parwana to prevent escalating tensions.
