Outrage in the US over targeting of Hindus in Bangladesh : Hindu-American group calls for sanctions
Washington, US – Hindus in Bangladesh continue to face relentless attacks from Islamic fundamentalists, with Hindu temples and homes being vandalized across the country. Since August 5th, more than 200 attacks have been reported in 50 districts, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the Hindu minority. A recent flashpoint in this ongoing persecution was the arrest of prominent Hindu spiritual leader Chinmay Krishna Das on sedition charges, which has further escalated tensions. Protests erupted in various locations, including the capital city of Dhaka, as members of the Hindu community voiced their outrage against the injustice. In response to these alarming developments, a prominent Hindu-American group in the United States has called for strict sanctions against Bangladesh. They condemned the government’s inability to protect its minorities and demanded accountability for the increasing violence and oppression. The situation has sparked international concern, with calls for immediate action to safeguard the rights and security of Hindus in Bangladesh.

1) Ajay Shah, President of Vishva Hindu Parishad America (VHP), described the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh as deeply disturbing. He stated, “The lack of international condemnation is emboldening the perpetrators.”
2) Amitabh Mittal, General Secretary of VHP, criticized global media silence on the issue, calling it “shocking” and highlighting the need for greater awareness and accountability.
3) Hindus for America First (H.F.A.F.) addressed an open letter to US President-elect Donald Trump, emphasizing:
a) The violence and discrimination faced by Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian minorities in Bangladesh.
b) A demand for the US to pressure Bangladesh to protect its vulnerable communities and take immediate action against escalating atrocities.
Editorial PerspectiveIt is commendable that Hindus in the US are actively raising their voices against the atrocities faced by Hindus in Bangladesh, advocating for justice and international action. However, the relative inaction of some Hindus in India on this issue is indeed concerning. |
