Doubtful about the realisation of Gandhi’s dream in India : Former US President Bill Clinton

Washington (USA) – Referring to the differences within India, especially between Hindus and Muslims, former US President Bill Clinton said that he expressed doubts about the realisation of Gandhi’s dream in India. 78-year-old Clinton has made this remark in his new book ‘Citizen: My Life After the White House’. The book was released last week. Today, India is developing rapidly and people are enjoying it. It has also become the most populous country. However, he says in the book that there is doubt whether Gandhi’s dream will be realised due to internal differences, especially between Hindus and Muslims.

The book also describes his visit to Gujarat after the devastating earthquake of 2001. According to Clinton, after visiting India, he visited a hospital and Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad and interacted with some youths. In the US, he established the ‘American India Foundation’ (AIF) with some of his Indian- American friends and collected crores of rupees for the earthquake victims.

During his visit to India, he met the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and expressed his desire to help the earthquake victims. Clinton has said that she had a lot of respect for the Vajpayee Government.

Editorial Perspective

Many US sociologists have dreamed of a racism-free America for decades. It would be better if the former President of the United States also tells how he thinks of achieving this dream within the US.
