Dominica and Guyana confer highest honour on Prime Minister Modi
Georgetown (Guyana) β Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with the highest national honours by three Caribbean nations in recognition of his contributions to strengthening international relations and supporting global health initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dominica awarded Prime Minister Modi the prestigious ‘Dominica Award of Honour’, presented by President Sylvanie Burton, acknowledging Indiaβs role in providing vaccines to Dominica during the pandemic. Guyana honoured Prime Minister Modi with its highest national award, ‘The Order of Excellence,’ while Barbados bestowed upon him the ‘Honorary Award of Freedom of Barbados,’ its most esteemed recognition. These awards reflect the growing appreciation for PM Modi’s leadership and India’s significant role in global humanitarian efforts and international cooperation.

During his two-day visit to Guyana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the second India- CARICOM Summit alongside representatives from Caribbean nations. This marked a historic occasion, as it was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in 56 years. The Prime Minister held bilateral talks with representatives of several Caribbean countries, focusing on strengthening ties and fostering mutual cooperation. A significant outcome of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration between the agricultural institutions of India and Guyana, aiming to boost agricultural development in both nations. Additionally, India announced plans to open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Guyana, providing affordable and quality generic medicines, further cementing the partnership between the two countries.
