Kerala High Court Rejects Bail Plea of Police Officer Accused of Raping a 14-Year-Old Girl
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – The Kerala High Court has denied bail to a police officer accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, who is said to belong to a Scheduled Caste.
Justice K. Babu stated that in serious crimes where preliminary investigations have provided evidence, granting bail is inappropriate. The severity of such crimes undermines public trust. While bail is typically the rule and incarceration the exception, in cases of grave offenses, bail becomes the exception. The accused can only be considered for bail if circumstances significantly change.
The officer allegedly contacted the girl on her mobile phone, invited her to his residence, and raped her on November 14, 2022.
Editorial PerspectiveThe verdict in this case, which dates back to 2022, should have been delivered by now, as the public believes. When protectors turn into predators, swift justice through fast-track courts and strict punishments is essential. |
