Take over mosques and don’t allow entry without permission : Calcutta High Court orders Police
Clashes in two groups over ‘namaz’ -reading in a mosque in Bengal
Kolkata (Bengal) – Calcutta High Court has ordered the Police to take over the control of a mosque in Purba Medinipur (East Midnapur) after clashes between two groups reading ‘namaz’. One person died in this brawl.
1.Two groups from different sects had a brawl during reading ‘namaz’ in a mosque in Purba Medinipur; therefore, on 7th November 2024, High Court ordered the Police to take control of this mosque; but the Court’s order was not executed. (Editorial Perspective : Religious extremists don’t follow even Court’s orders) Later, on 13th November 2024, both these groups resorted to violence which has left one person dead and 8 injured. The Police have arrested two persons in this context.
2.The High Court has stated that let the Police take over the control of the mosque and nobody would be allowed entry without the permission of the Egra Police Station Chief. The Court also added that such a decision was taken after a lot of pondering over the issue. Reading ‘namaz’ in this mosque would be banned in case of recurrence of the violence leading to anyone’s death. Nobody should die over religious matters. (Editorial Perspective : Hindus feel that similar order of Police taking over mosque should be issued by the Courts when Hindus are attacked from mosques as their religious processions pass by mosques. )
