In Saudi Arabia, 100 foreign criminals have been hanged to death this year

Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) – The number of death sentences have increased significantly this year. In 2024, so far, more then 100 foreign citizens have been sentenced to death. The citizens hanged are from Pakistan, Syria, Iran and Yemen. Saudi Arabia has broken its own record of giving death sentences. This number is three times more than in the year 2022-2023. Earlier, the Saudi Arabian authorities had sentenced 34 foreign criminals to death every year.

Even Saudi Arabia had not given death sentence to 100 foreign criminals within a year. The country has always been criticised for awarding capital punishments.

21 Pakistanis have been hanged to death

Among the foreign criminals facing death sentence, Pakistanis are maximum in number. 21 Pakistanis have been sentenced to death in 2024, 20 from Yemen, 14 from Syria, 10 from Nigeria, 9 from Egypt, 8 from Jordan and 7 from Ethiopia, and 3 Indians. Most of them have been caught in drug related crimes and sentenced to death.

The official media reported death sentence to a Yemen citizen in the South-West of Nazran. He was charged with drug smuggling, there was seldom a month in Saudi Arabia this year, when no foreign national has been sentenced to death.

Law and order situation is good in Saudi Arabia because of severe punishments, therefore large number of tourists visit the place. India also needs provision for such punishments.
