‘We are not nervous over Donald Trump’s victory’ : EAM Dr S Jaishankar

US President-elect Donald Trump and India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar

Mumbai – “I know today a lot of countries are nervous about the US. We are not one of them. The Prime Minister was among the first three calls I think that President Trump took,” said India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. He was speaking as the chief guest at the Aditya Birla Scholarship programme here. At this time, Harvard University principal and political philosopher Michael J. Sandel was also present.

India is the focus of countries around the world at present

Dr Jaishankar was asked about the impact of Donald Trump becoming President on Indo-US relations. Responding to which, he said that in fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has maintained good relations with many of the leaders who became the President of the United States. In a very natural way, he tried to enhance his relationship with the President of the United States. The focus of countries around the world is currently on India, and the reason behind the appreciation of India’s policy is due to our focus on economic policies. Now at the international level, we know each other not only on the basis of military or political strength, but also on the basis of technology, economic capacity, manpower and social reforms. No country can develop on the strength of a single sector.
