400 Muslim NGOs launch campaign targeting 100% Muslim voting in the elections
|
Mumbai – Before the assembly election, Muslims had demanded 20% of seats and a Deputy Chief Minister post in Maharashtra. In response, the ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)’ has nominated only 13 Muslim candidates and has not given any assurance regarding the post of Deputy Chief Minister. In this background, Muslims have come forward to support MVA’s victory. Leaders like Congress’ Imran Pratapgarhi have taken the initiative. There are 30 constituencies in the State where Muslims constitute 10% to 40% of the voters; therefore, Maulana Sajjad Nomani discussed the matter regarding winning 23 to 30 seats with some leaders. No follow up action was taken though, due to which, 400 Muslim NGOs have now launched a campaign to ensure 100% Muslim voting. Hindi leaflets are being distributed in Mumbai, urging Muslims to vote for MAV alone to save Maharashtra, and not to waste a single vote to other parties. ‘Marathi Muslim Seva Sangh’ is distributing these leaflets. They are also calling for unity to save the Waqf Board, oppose the Uniform Civil Code, and stand united for hijab rights.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has filed a complaint against these 400 Muslim NGOs. Also, MNS chief Raj Thackeray has alleged that a fatwa from Dubai has been issued encouraging Muslims to vote.
If MAV comes to power, promises were made by MP Arvind Sawant (Thackeray faction) to increase the FSI (Floor Space Index) for mosques, etc. Other promises to Muslims include granting autonomy to the Waqf Board, restricting the activities of the RSS and its affiliates, and taking strict action against those who make statements against Prophet Muhammad and Islam. Against this backdrop, a massive campaign is being run by these 400 NGOs.
