Ottawa (Canada) – Canada has refused to provide security to temporary camps set up by the Indian Embassy. The Indian Consulate in Toronto shared this information. These camps were organised to provide essential services such as life certificates and other assistance to Indians residing in Canada. The Consulate in Toronto posted on X, ‘In the view of the security agencies conveying their inability to provide minimum security protection to the community camp organizers, Consulate has decided to cancel some of the scheduled consular camps (sic)’.

1. Earlier too, Indian Embassy activities had been suspended. Khalistani supporters have been staging continuous protests outside these camps, and instead of taking action against them, Canadian Police have been providing shelter to the Khalistanis. This has forced the Embassy to halt its programmes.
2. On 3rd November, the Indian High Commissioner in Canada had informed about disruptions in their operations.
3. The High Commissioner stated that these camps are organised annually, and this year they had planned similar events. Security assistance was requested from the Canadian Police but was not provided, and there was a protest in Toronto. Earlier, on 2nd and 3rd November, there was unrest at camps held in Vancouver and Surrey. These camps provide life certificates to thousands of people, and on the day of the unrest too, a thousand life certificates were issued. Due to the lack of security, it will not be possible to continue offering such services in the future, which will cause inconvenience to both Indian and Canadian citizens.
