SC slams Delhi Govt and Police over bursting of firecrackers during Diwali despite a ban
Delhi Govt and the Police asked to respond
New Delhi – The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the bursting of firecrackers in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) during Diwali, despite an existing ban. The Court asked the State Government how the firecrackers were burst despite the ban. Additionally, the Court has sought a response from the Delhi Police Commissioner. Both have been given one week to respond. The Court also directed them to submit an affidavit detailing steps taken to ensure a complete ban on the use of firecrackers.

1. According to the International news agency Reuters, Delhi was ranked the most polluted city in the world on the morning of November 1st.
2. Referring to a report, the Supreme Court further stated that pollution levels in Delhi this year have reached record highs, far exceeding those of the past two years.
3. The Court noted that incidents of stubble burning in farms also increased during Diwali period. Consequently, the Court has requested detailed reports from the Punjab and Haryana Governments on stubble-burning incidents in the last 10 days of October. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for 14thNovember.
