Belagavi – It has been claimed that lands in Survey No. 8 of Belagavi city covering an area of 54-acre 13 gunta are registered as the properties of Waqf Board and the original ownership of these lands is with Sherkhan Jumma mosque. With this background, a meeting was held at Datta Mandir in Shahapur under the guidance of BJP MLA Abhay Patil from South City. MLA Patil guided the citizens on how all the residents of that area can fight against these claims. All the attendees decided to fight legally. On this occasion, corporators Nitin Jadhav, Girish Dhongdi, Raju Bhatkhande, citizens Mahesh Patil, Sanjay Prabhu, Vinayak Hawlanache, Pawan Dhongdi, Neminath Patil, Pandurang Shinde and others were present.

Even earlier, ownership rights have been claimed on behalf of the Waqf Board and Sherkhan Jumma mosque over the land of Anandwadi. A notice has been issued again in this regard. Residents of M. Phule road, Muchandi Mala, Gokulnagar and Anandwadi of Shahapur have been issued a notice by the Waqf Board. It has been mentioned that these lands should not be traded.

Editorial Perspective

Why do citizens have to fight against the claims of Waqf Board ? The only solution to this is the Union Government making the Waqf Board and the Waqf Act void.
