PM Modi can influence the end of Russia-Ukraine War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterates
New Delhi – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his opinions in an interview with the ‘Times of India’ that Prime Minister Modi can have a major influence in ending the Russia-Ukraine war. He said, ‘The second Ukraine peace summit should be held in New Delhi. If PM Modi wishes, he can do this summit’. Zelenskyy has made similar statements in the past.
Zelenskyy further said,
1. PM Modi is the leader of a very large country in terms of population and economy. India and Modi can have a significant impact on preventing any conflict. He can certainly attempt to facilitate negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
2. You can force Putin to bring back Ukrainian children. PM Modi can use his influence and tell Putin just give me 1,000 Ukrainian children who will be brought back to Ukraine. Let PM Modi bring back at least 1,000 Ukrainian children.
3. UN Secretary-General Guterres attended the BRICS summit. In this context, Zelenskyy remarked that if someone claims to be neutral in the Ukraine-Russia war, it means they are siding with Russia. Neutrality only assists the aggressor. There cannot be neutrality between the attacker and the victim.
4. The war can be halted by weakening Russia’s economy. Many argue that sanctions on Russia have had no effect. If India, China, Turkey, and other major countries impose sanctions on Russia, it would compel Putin to stop the war. (Does this imply that the sanctions imposed by the US and Europe are ineffective ? – Editor)
5. Regarding the outcome of the US presidential elections, Zelenskyy said that American policies do not change with leadership. Whoever becomes President of the United States will continue to support Ukraine. If US policy changes, it will be difficult for us.
6. Europe alone is capable of confronting Russia. It is a powerful continent, five times larger than Russia in terms of population. If Europe remains united, it is very powerful. It is essential for us to maintain unity in Europe.
BRICS Summit failed, claims Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy added that leaders of many countries attended the BRICS summit in Russia; however, most of them are not trusted by Putin. Saudi Arabia was invited to join the organisation but it did not join. Putin wanted to bring a large part of the world to his side through this summit, but he was unable to do so.
PM Modi mentioned the Russia-Ukraine war during his bilateral talks with President Putin at this summit. ‘Problems should be resolved through peaceful means. India is ready to assist in every possible way in the future’, Modi said.
