SC refuses to stay the action against illegal mosques and dargahs in Gir Somnath (Gujarat)

New Delhi – The Supreme Court refused to order a stay on the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Gujarat. Also, the Gujarat Government assured the Court that encroachment-free lands will remain with the Government and will not be given to any third party. The administration has demolished Muslim houses along with illegally constructed mosques and dargahs in Gir Somnath District.

The Supreme Court was hearing a challenge petition of the Auliya-e-Din Committee. The Gujarat High Court had last month refused to stay the proceedings in Prabhas Patan village near Somnath temple. This decision was challenged in the Supreme Court.

The Auliya-e-Din Committee had said in its petition that 9 Islamic religious places were demolished. Along with this, many tombs, dargahs and mosques have also been demolished. This action was illegal as the structures existed since more than a century. (If it was so, would the administration have taken action ? Auliya-e-Din Committee is lying blatantly – Editor).

Editorial Perspective

First building the illegal religious structures, and when the administration takes action against them, opposing it in the lower Courts, High Courts and even the Supreme Court. This has been the modus operandi of so-called ‘poor’, ‘backward’ and ‘unsafe’ Muslims. It should be investigated who is funding these activities.
