Morris Samuel

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) – A man from Gandhinagar set up a fake court and adjudicated some cases and also grabbed 100 acres of government land worth crores of rupees. The man, identified as Morris Samuel Christian, feigned being a judge and gave verdicts. A court-like ambience was created in his office in Gandhinagar. The fake court had been running for the last five years. The Ahmedabad police recently arrested Morris for duping people by feigning being a judge.

This is how the fraud happened !

1. Morris had set up an office in a house in Indiranagar here. He used to make his friends stand up for hearings as fake advocates. He would trap those whose land disputes were pending in the city civil court. He would make them client of these advocates and siphon money from them.

Morris described himself as an official court-appointed arbitrator. In more than 11 cases, Morris passed orders in favour of the client of these advocates and siphoned money from them.

How was Morris caught ?

In 2019, Morris passed an order in favour of a person. The case pertained to government land under the jurisdiction of the district collector. A client of an advocate who was a friend of Morris claimed it. Morris initiated a fake court proceedings and obtained an order in favour of this client. The district collector was directed to include client’s name in the land document records. Morris appealed to the civil court to execute the order through other attorneys. However, the registrar of the real court, Hardik Desai, found that Morris was not an arbitrator or the tribunal’s order was not genuine, which exposed his fake court.
