‘The process of restoring trust between India-China will take months’ : Clarifies Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi

New Delhi – India and China have declared officially that they have reached an agreement for patrolling the LAC. While reacting to this, the Indian Army Chief said that although the agreement is a welcome step, both the countries will have to restore trust between them. The soldiers will need to see and talk to each other. An environment suitable for this will be provided. We are in the process of restoring trust which will take some time.

General Dwivedi added, to build the trust, retracting the troops and managing the Buffer Zones is very important. That is possible when we listen to each other, be satisfied and find solution. That will be proven only when we can go to the Buffer Zone with confidence. Patrolling will make it easy. Both the sides will get a chance to convince each other, gain trust and then only the next step can be taken.

About the case

China had encroached 6 regions in Ladakh in 2020. In 2022, China retreated from 4 regions. Later, there was Indo-China war in the Galwan valley. India had lost 20 soldiers in this war and China had lost 40. Since then, Indian army was prohibited from patrolling Daulat Beg Oldie and Demchok.

Editorial Perspective

India and China can never build trust; because it takes two to tango. This is a fact given the history of China and its mindset. That’s why India should always be alert in dealing with China.
