Shiv Mandir at Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) claimed by the Waqf Board

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – 250-year-old Shiv Temple in Saadatganj here has been registered on paper as a Waqf property. The matter has now reached the Court.

In 2016, the Waqf Board declared the Shiv Mandir and the surrounding land as its own. After this, the Waqf Board leased the land to Afshan Ansari, wife of a gangster Mukhtar Ansari. Afshan Ansari allegedly sold the land leased by the Waqf Board.

Editorial Perspective

Since the Mughals ruled India for many centuries, it should not be surprising if it is claimed that the whole of India belongs to the Waqf Board. Therefore, instead of amending, better to abolish the Waqf Act.
