Temple idols vandalised in Bhagalpur (Bihar)

  • Jewellery from the idols stolen

  • Angry mob pelts stones at the Police

  • Police respond with baton charge and aerial firing

Bhagalpur (Bihar) – In the Sanhoula area of Bhagalpur, unknown individuals vandalised idols of Deity Shri Durga, Shriram, Sita, Radha, and Shrikrushna in a temple on the night of 19th October. The jewellery adorning the idols was also stolen. The incident ignited tension in the area, as an enraged crowd began pelting stones, creating tension. The Police, who arrived at the scene, initially resorted to baton charges and later fired shots into the air. The mob even surrounded the local Police station, questioning how such an act could occur at a temple located behind the station.

Upon learning about the incident in the morning, angry residents blocked the main Ghogha-Sanhoula road. In response to the Police baton charge, the crowd retaliated by throwing stones. Police attempted to defuse the situation, but given the gravity of the incident, a large Police force was deployed to maintain law and order.

Police declare suspect mentally ill after arrest

Editorial Perspectives

  • Do the Bihar Police consider the public mentally ill with such claims ?
  • How does such a mentally ill individual possess the ability to vandalise only Hindu temple idols and steal their jewellery ? The Bihar Police must explain this.
  • The Police have arrested one person in connection with the vandalism. In a press release, they stated that the arrested suspect is ‘mentally ill.’ They also urged the public not to spread misleading news or rumours on social media.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Hindus expect that such incidents should not occur when the BJP and JD(U) coalition Government is in power in Bihar.
  • Attacks on Hindu temples under any Government in the country indicate that the Hindus are unsafe across India.
