Trash thrown every day on the main road at Dadar market

‘Clean Mumbai’ drive goes for a toss ! The hideous scene observed daily in the capital of Maharashtra is pathetic !

Trash thrown outside shops

Mumbai, 19th October –  Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) has undertaken a ‘deep clean’ drive, but it has been observed that trash is thrown regularly on the main road of Dadar market which is a main suburb of Mumbai and the railway station. Most of the hotels and shops in the market are throwing trash on the road. The staff of MMC has to remove the trash every morning from the road while cleaning the roads regularly. As such, is the cleaning drive limited only to the appeal made by MMC and why no action is being taken against the vendors for throwing large quantities of trash daily on the roads are some of the questions raised by people.

In January 2024, the State Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had appealed to keep Mumbai clean. About a month ago, he, along with Mumbai’s Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha and officers of MMC participated in the clean Mumbai drive on the sea shores of Mumbai. CM Eknath Shinde had asked to clean every lane and road in Mumbai while appealing to people to maintain cleanliness. The Administration is, however, evading taking action. A heap of trash is observed daily even on the staircases of Dadar railway station and on the road that passes by Kailas Mandir shop. Many passengers detrain at Dadar railway station in the morning who have to pass through the trash. Mumbai is, therefore, becoming infamous not as the clean city but the most unclean city.

Trash on all roads in the market !

The road leading to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road from Dadar (East) railway station in front of Kailas Mandir (Kailas Lassi) shop, the road going towards Shri Swami Narayan Mandir and the road going to Hindmata Market are full of trash directly thrown by the shopkeepers. A few shopkeepers keep the garbage bags in front of their shops, but stray dogs and cats tear open those bags, strewing the trash everywhere on the road. The site looks most hideous in the mornings when all the trash is thrown on the roads. The MMC staff has to spend many hours daily cleaning all such trash. It is necessary for MMC to formulate rules and regulations for the shopkeepers for throwing the trash and it is expected to take punitive action against those who throw trash on the roads.
