Religious sentiments are not hurt by saying ‘Jai Shriram’ in the mosque : Karnataka High Court
Bengaluru – The Karnataka High Court has directed to quash the ongoing criminal proceedings against the accused in the case of chanting ‘Jai Shriram’ slogans in a mosque. In its order, the Karnataka High Court has said that chanting ‘Jai Shriram’ in mosques does not hurt religious sentiments.

1. Two persons, residents of Dakshina Kannada District, entered a local mosque on the night in September last year and shouted ‘Jai Shriram’.
2. The Local Police then booked them under sections 295(a) (insulting religious sentiments), 447 (criminal trespass) and 506 (intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused approached the High Court demanding that the charges against them be dropped.
3. The Government of Karnataka opposed the plea of the petitioners and sought their custody stating that the case required further investigation; however, the High Court dismissed the demand stating that there was no threat to public safety by giving slogans of ‘Jai Shriram’.
