55 countries including India have provisions for death penalty : China tops the list

Washington (USA) – There are still around 55 countries in the world, including India, where the death penalty is in place. According to the Amnesty International, China carries out the most executions. However, since China does not publicly release its statistics, the exact number is difficult to ascertain. Pakistan is also significantly active in carrying out death sentences.

According to Amnesty International, after China, Iran is the second-highest executor, with over 576 people executed. Following Iran are Saudi Arabia (196), Egypt (24), the USA (18), Singapore (11), Iraq (11), Kuwait (7), Somalia (more than 6), and Sudan (more than 5). The time frame for these executions has not been specified.

26% of prisoners sentenced to death are in Pakistan alone !

According to Amnesty’s report, Pakistan ranks among the top countries globally in terms of death sentences. Of all the prisoners sentenced to death worldwide, 26% are from Pakistan alone. Since 2004, Pakistan has sentenced at least 4,500 people to death, which averages to around one person being sentenced each year by the Courts.
