BJP returns in Haryana, while National Conference takes charge in Jammu and Kashmir

Omar Abdullah to become the New Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi – On October 8, the counting of votes for the assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir was conducted. BJP is expected to secure a majority in Haryana, while the National Conference-Congress alliance is leading in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the Election Commission has yet to announce the results for all constituencies. Farooq Abdullah, a senior leader of the National Conference, announced that his son, Omar Abdullah, would be the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

People Reject PDP in Jammu and Kashmir

1. This is the first assembly election held in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to the region.

2. The National Conference-Congress alliance is leading in 48 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, while BJP is ahead in 29. In the previous election, BJP won 30 seats.

3. Last time, the BJP and Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) formed the government. However, neither party managed to secure a majority this time. PDP is leading in only 4 seats, indicating that the people of Kashmir have rejected the party.

4. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made its debut in Jammu and Kashmir, with their candidate, Mehraj Malik, winning the Doda assembly seat.

BJP Wins in a Tightly Contested Battle in Haryana

1. Several exit polls predicted a Congress victory in Haryana. In line with these projections, Congress appeared to be heading for a majority when vote counting began in the morning. As of 10 AM, Congress was in the lead, but the situation flipped, and by the evening, BJP had taken a lead in 48 seats, securing a majority.

2. Congress raised concerns about the Election Commission. (Those who lack confidence in their own abilities often resort to baseless accusations! – Editor)

3. Congress workers were celebrating from the early hours of October 8; however, BJP’s lead in the initial rounds quickly dampened their spirits.

4. Following this, Congress General Secretary and MP Jairam Ramesh is planning to file a complaint with the Election Commission. He stated that the results for 10 to 12 rounds of counting have been received, but only the numbers from 4 to 5 rounds are displayed on the official website, which has led the media to report inaccurate news. He added that a similar situation occurred during the Lok Sabha elections. Although the Election Commission is an autonomous body, pressuring local administrations in this manner is inappropriate.

Farooq Abdullah’s Controversial Statement: “We Will Try to Release Innocent People from Prison!”

Editorial Perspective

How will Abdullah determine who is innocent and who is a terrorist ? Will he release terrorists under the guise of innocence ?

Speaking to the media during the vote counting, Farooq Abdullah said, “After 10 years, the people have given us a mandate. We pray to Allah that we can fulfil the expectations of the people. Our government in Jammu and Kashmir will not be a ‘police state’ but one that belongs to the people. We will try to release innocent people from prison. The media will have freedom. Trust between Hindus and Muslims needs to be built. I hope that the parties in the INDI alliance will stand with us in restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.”
