Mumbai – The ‘Student Islamic Organisation of India’ has initiated a nationwide campaign called ‘Guidance of the Quran in Schools and Colleges.’ A report about this was published in the daily newspaper Sakal on 27th September. As per the Indian Constitution, which upholds the principle of secularism, promoting the teachings of any single religious text in schools and colleges is unconstitutional. There are no established guidelines for such practices, and doing so may incite religious tensions and unrest. Therefore, such guidance should not be permitted. On 3rd October, the Hindu Rashtra Coordination Committee submitted a memorandum regarding this issue to Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar. The memorandum was presented during an event for children organised by the Fulora Foundation, held at the premises of the Education Minister’s official residence. Babubhai Bhawanji, the Foundation’s president and former Deputy Mayor, had invited the committee to participate in the event. Committee representatives, including Mr Ravindra Dasari, Mr Manish Saini, Mr Satish Sonar, and Mrs Dhanshree Kelshikar, were present on the occasion.
The memorandum further calls for directives to be issued to the relevant organisation, as well as to all schools and colleges, to refrain from organising such programs. It warns that if no action is taken, the Hindu Rashtra Coordination Committee will organise a protest on this matter.
