Mumbai – Navaratri, the festival honouring Shri Durga, a form of Shakti (strength), is only a few days away. “Just as Durga symbolises strength and vanquishes evil, to create a Durga in every home, who can teach a lesson to those who perpetrate wrongdoing, we are launching the ‘Har Ghar Durga’ campaign,” announced Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Maharashtra’s Skill Development Minister, during a press conference. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will launch the campaign on September 30 at the Government Industrial Institute in Kurla. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will also attend the event. Adah Sharma, known for her role in the acclaimed film ‘The Kerala Story,’ which addresses the issue of love jihad in Kerala, will also attend the event.
“This campaign will offer free self-defense training to young women in Government industrial institutions across the State. The training will be comprehensive, to be conducted 2-3 times a week, throughout the entire year. Apart from female students studying in Government industrial institutes, other women can also participate in this,” said minister Lodha.
Expert instructors will be appointed to provide training as part of the campaign. Cabinet Minister Lodha envisioned that, just as there are courses for various subjects, self-defense classes should also be available. This idea has led to the creation of the ‘Har Ghar Durga’ campaign.
