Srinagar (J&K) – The conflict between the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and Israel has escalated. On 28thSeptember, Israeli airstrikes in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. To protest this, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti announced the cancellation of election rally for a day. Mufti, along with Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi of the National Conference, also expressed grief over Nasrallah’s death.

Mehbooba Mufti posted on X saying, ‘Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon & Gaza especially Hassan Nasarullah. We stand with the people of Palestine & Lebanon in this hour of immense grief & exemplary resistance (sic)’.

Hassan Nasrallah had led Hezbollah for over three decades, and the organisation has confirmed his death.

Protests in Srinagar and Budgam

Following Nasrallah’s assassination, hundreds took to the streets in various areas of the capital Srinagar and Budgam to protest. The protestors carried photographs of Nasrallah and raised slogans against Israel. (As the king, so are the subjects ! Therefore, political parties like PDP and National Conference, which aspire to power, should be permanently banned – Editor)

Editorial Perspective

Can Mehbooba Mufti, who supports a Lebanese terrorist, ever prioritise the interests of India and Kashmir ? Hence, Government should not stop at abrogating Article 370, but there should also be a ban on major political parties like the one led by Mufti ! Otherwise, if they come to power, it wouldn’t be surprising if Jammu and Kashmir falls prey to terrorism !
