1. This Ganesh mandal had made boards with messages like ‘Stop Love Jihad’, ‘Hindus and cow-slaughterer Muslims can never be brothers’, ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj : Father of undivided India’, ‘Shriram and Maharshi Valmiki : Deities’, etc.
2. The Police, with their additional force, forcibly took away the boards carried by the members as the procession reached the main road. They told them that the permission for the procession was granted on the condition that nothing in words or action should be done to hurt religious sentiments.
3. The Police action enraged the members, and they took a stand that the procession would not move forward unless the boards were returned to them. They squatted on the road for half an hour raising slogans echoing in the whole area.
4.Later, the Police tried to pacify the members and returned the boards with matter written about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shriram and Maharshi Valmiki but did not return the boards about ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Cow-slaughter’.
5. The Ganesh mandal moved forward with few returned boards to save trouble for other Ganesh mandals.
1. The Ganesh mandal members and other pro-Hindu organisations are going to submit a memorandum to the Police demanding an answer on what exactly was illegal about the matter written on the boards.
2. Other Ganesh mandals have also displayed similar boards. The devout Hindu activists, therefore, feel that the video made viral on social media by this particular Ganesh mandal on ‘Hindu Dharma’ and to spread awareness on Dharma could have led to such deliberate action by the Police. |
