Religious fanatics pelt stones on Ganesh immersion processions at Shegaon and Bhiwandi

Enraged Ganesh mandals halt the procession for 2 hours in Shegaon

Buldhana – A minor dispute led to fanatics pelting stones at a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Shegaon. Also, in Bhiwandi (Dist. Thane), fanatics desecrated the idol by throwing stones and slippers.

In Shegaon, the Ganesh mandals took a firm stand that Shri Ganesh idols would not be immersed until action was taken against those involved in the stone pelting. As a result, the procession was halted at a spot for 2 hours. A video of the stone pelting from house rooftops has gone viral on social media. Several people were injured, and an additional Police force has been deployed in the area.

There have been incidents of stone-pelting at the Ganesh immersion processions even at Bhiwandi (Dist. Thane), Amalner (Dist. Jalgaon), Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh this year.

(There are reports of stone pelting on a procession in Achalpur (Dist. Amravati). BJP MLA Anil Bonde met the Police to discuss action on the matter.)

Editorial Perspectives

  • Hindu Rashtra is the only solution to stop the attacks by religious fanatics on Hindu processions.
  • It is evident that the Police are unable to protect Hindus. Hence, Hindus themselves should now form protection squads to safeguard their processions.
