Putin urges Russians to have sex at workplace due to declining birthrate
Moscow (Russia) – Concerned about the declining birthrate, the Putin Government has called on citizens to engage in sexual relations while at work. President Putin stated that protecting Russian citizens is our priority. The future of Russia now depends on its population. Russia is among the top 10 countries with the largest populations, but in recent years, its population has been steadily decreasing. Less than 1,00,000 babies were born in Russia in June this year. An estimated 6 lakh children were born in the first half of 2024—a decrease of 16,000 compared to
last year.
Last December, Putin urged Russian women to have at least 8 children, noting that in many communities there is still a tradition of having large families. He emphasised that in the past, it was common for families to have 7-8 children.
Previously, in 2022, Putin announced a ‘Mother Heroine’ award for women who give birth to 10 children. This award had also been given during World War II when Russia’s population was rapidly declining. The awarding of this title was discontinued after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
