For the sake of public interest, I am ready to step down : Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata rape and murder case
Kolkata – The entire country is expressing anger over the rape and murder case at the R.G. Kar Government Medical College here. The case has also embarrassed the Mamata Banerjee Government in Bengal. The junior doctors have gone on a strike, saying that it is outrageous that an incident like the rape and murder of a trainee doctor happened in a Government hospital. The Chief Minister’s attempt to hold talks with these protesters was in vain. In this background, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has apologised to the public. She also said that she is ready to resign in the public interest.

Mamata Banerjee has failed to handle the situation : Bengal Governor
Bengal Governor Anand Bose criticised Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her failure in handling the situation in the State. The governor said in a video posted on ‘X’, “There is violence in the State, violence at home, violence on campus, violence in hospital, violence in the city. The silent majority is part of democracy, not silence to the majority. Remember, silence is violence. In solidarity with Bengal’s citizens, I will socially boycott the Chief Minister. I will not be sharing any public platform with the Chief Minister. Nor will I participate in any public programme which involves the Chief Minister.”
Editorial PerspectiveThe way Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee handled the case after the murder and rape of a trainee lady doctor, shows her insensitivity and anti-social behaviour. Indian citizens know that Mamata Banerjee is talking of resignation only to settle the matter of the stand-off with the agitating doctors. |
