Bantwal (Karnataka) – During the ongoing Ganesh festival, there have been attacks on Ganesh Idols, pandals of Ganesh committees, and Hindu processions by fanatic Muslims in both India and Bangladesh. In some places, we have also witnessed the breaking of Ganesha’s Idols, which are revered by Hindus. Amidst this, the Bantwal taluk in the Dakshin Kannada district of Karnataka has come into the spotlight for a different reason. The Shri Siddhivinayak Trust Board in Bolantoor village sent a letter to the local mosque, requesting that “the mosque management should not distribute drinks and sweets during the procession.”
The letter states that last year, due to the distribution of such drinks and sweets, many children suffered from food poisoning. As a precaution, we request that henceforth you do not distribute drinks and sweets during any processions and that you cooperate with this request. The temple’s trust board mentioned that this step is being taken to maintain the harmony between Hindus and Muslims. Some people have expressed anger in opposition to this request.
