Bangladesh to implement Sharia Law : Dr Taslima Nasrin, Bangladeshi writer
Dhaka – After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Government in Bangladesh, there are fears that fundamentalists will strengthen their grip on the country. Bangladeshi writer Dr Taslima Nasreen has said that radical Islamic organisations in Bangladesh will implement Sharia law in Bangladesh. The women there will have to bear the consequences. She expressed this opinion while talking to ‘The New Indian Express’. Dr Taslima Nasreen has been living as a refugee in India for many years.
Taslima Nasreen said,
1. In Bangladesh, radical Islamists will take away women’s rights under Sharia law and impose many restrictions on them. Recently universities have started issuing orders regarding Islamic dress code. Many universities have asked girls to follow a dress code. Hijab and burqa are described as ‘dress codes’.
2. Intolerance is on the rise in Bangladesh. There is no freedom of expression. Human rights are being violated.
3. An interim Government led by Muhammad Yunus will further worsen the situation in the country; because the violence that took place after the removal of Sheikh Hasina from power is being called a ‘festival’.
4. Temples in the country were destroyed. The museum and the statues of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were vandalised. Hindu minorities were targeted. Radicalism has increased manifold in the country.
