BJP sets up a 7-member team for Waqf Board (Amendment) Bill, 2024
New Delhi – The minority Alliance of Bhartiya Janata Party has set up a 7-member team for the Waqf Board (Amendment) Bill 2024. The team includes Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh
presidents of Waqf Board and 2 members of BJP Minority Morcha National Executives.
This team will have discussions with the Muslim Scholars. They will try to understand their problems and collect suggestions for the Bill. They will also explain the need for the amendment in the Bill and the benefit of the amendments to them.
1. A 31 member Joint Parliamentary Committee, under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP Jagadambika Pal, has been formed in this regard. The Committee includes 21 Lok Sabha members and 10 Rajya Sabha members.
2. The first meeting of the committee was held on 22 nd August. Followed by second meeting on 30 th August in New Delhi. After the meeting the committee has asked for suggestions. 15-day deadline has been given for this. Waqf amendment Bill will have next meetings on 5 th and 6 th September.
3. Minister for the Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiran Rajiju had presented the Waqf Board (Amendment) Bill 2024, in the Lok Sabha, on 8 th August. When the opposition party protested, this Bill was passed on to JPC without further discussions.
