In Bangladesh, 49 Hindu teachers have been forced to resign
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – There have already been reports that after attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, Hindu teachers, professors, and Government officials are being forcibly made to resign from their jobs. Now, new information has emerged that 49 Hindu teachers have been forced to resign.
Sajib Sarkar, the coordinator of the ‘Bangladesh Chhatra Oikya Parishad’, the student wing of the ‘Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council’, stated in a press conference that since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Government, religious and ethnic minorities have been facing violence, including looting, attacks on women, vandalism of temples, arson at homes and workplaces, and even murders. Minority teachers across the country have faced physical assaults, forcing at least 49 teachers to resign by 30th August 2024; however, 19 of them have been reinstated.

On 29th August 2024, a mob of students and outsiders attacked the office of Shukla Rani Haldar, the Principal of Bakergonj Government College in Barisal, demanding her resignation. Consequently, Shukla Rani was forced to resign. A photograph of the handwritten note stating “I am resigning” on a blank piece of paper has circulated on social media.
The ‘Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote’ (BJHM), a national alliance of 23 religious organizations in Bangladesh, reported that since 5th August 2024, Hindu families in 278 locations across 48 districts have faced violence.
Professor Sanjay Kumar Mukherjee of ‘Kazi Nazrul University’ confirmed the reports of teachers being forced to resign, saying that he was coerced into resigning. Hindus are very insecure in Bangladesh.
Dr. Chandranath Poddar, a professor in the Mathematics Department at Dhaka University, was also forced to resign by students. Teachers, who had decided not to come to the university out of fear, were forced to resign at their homes by jihadi groups.

Taslima Nasreen, a writer who was previously forced to flee Bangladesh, posted on ‘X’ that the situation in Bangladesh is extremely serious. Teachers are being forced to resign. Journalists, ministers, and former Government officials are being killed, or imprisoned. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus remains silent on all these matters.
