Karnataka Waqf Board opposes The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024
Bengaluru (Karnataka) – The Union Government introduced a bill to amend the Waqf Board Act 1995 in the Lok Sabha, which met with stiff opposition. The Bill was then referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee for discussion. This law has been opposed by various Waqf boards in the country. “We will not support this law under any circumstances,” the decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Minister Jameer Ahmed and State Waqf Board Chairman Anwar Basha. A resolution against this Act was passed in the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Waqf Board and a copy of it was given to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The delegation has requested to write a letter to the Centre opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill. We will not give any information to the Joint Parliamentary Committee constituted by the Union Government. Our institution is autonomous and the proposed amendment act is against the interest of the community. The delegation has demanded that the state Government should pass a protest resolution in the upcoming session and send it to the Union Government.
