The ‘Om’ sign on Om Mountain in Uttarakhand disappears !

Claims that global warming or increased development in the Himalayan region is the cause !

Mount Om

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) – Mount Om stands in the Vyas Valley located in Dharchula taluka of Pithoragarh district of the state. The unique feature of this mountain, which is 5,900 meters high, is that it has a fascinating figure of the letter ‘Om’. This mountain is believed to have existed for thousands of years. Although, Om figure seen on this snow-capped mountain is a subject of faith of crores of Hindus, now, the ‘Om figure’ has disappeared as global temperatures have risen causing melting of mountain snow.

1. Environmentalists and locals believe that this was due to natural causes. Some others believe that it was due to development work in the Himalayan region.

2. The devotees have demanded an inquiry into the incident. The government has initiated an inquiry into the incident. Steps are being taken to ensure that ‘Om’ returns to the mountain.

3. People are hoping that in the new season, there will be another snowfall and ‘Om’ will return.

4. During the pilgrimage of Kailash Mansarovar, this mountain gives darshan to the devotees from nabhidhang.

Editorial Perspective

There may be truth in both the claims. Of course, both claims show forth the cause being human interference. In short, this is another example of how scientific development is harming Hinduism and in a way human race.
